Freckle is a skin tracking application for Android. This policy describes what data the app handles, where it lives, and what it doesn't do. The short version: your data stays under your control. Freckle has no server and never sees your photos, measurements, or skin profile. Optional Google Drive backup goes to your own account.
What Freckle stores
When you use Freckle, the following information is stored locally on your device:
- Photos you take or import of skin spots, moles, and blemishes
- Location labels you assign to each tracked spot (for example, "upper left back")
- Measurements you enter, such as width and height in millimetres
- Dates when each photo was taken and each check-in was recorded
- Notes and status tags you add to individual spots
- Check-in history and reminder preferences
None of this information is transmitted to Freckle or to any third party. If you enable Google Drive backup, your data is sent directly from your device to your own Google account — Freckle never receives or processes it.
What Freckle does not do
Freckle does not:
- Require you to create an account or provide any personal information
- Operate a server or transmit any data to Freckle
- Include advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking SDKs
- Share your data with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers
- Use your photos to train machine learning models
- Access any data outside the app's private storage on your device (other than your Google Drive if you enable backup)
Where your data lives
All data is stored in Android's private app storage, which is accessible only to Freckle and is not readable by other apps without explicit permission.
Google Drive backup
Freckle offers an optional backup feature that saves your data to your own Google Drive account. This backup is initiated only when you choose to enable it. Your data travels directly from your device to Google Drive — it does not pass through any Freckle server. Freckle does not have access to your Google Drive or your backed-up data.
Use of Google Drive is governed by Google's own privacy policy and terms of service.
Your device may also have its own automatic backup settings. Whether Android's built-in backup includes Freckle data depends on your device settings. You can control this in your Android settings under "Backup."
Device permissions
Freckle requests the following permissions:
- Camera — to photograph skin spots directly from within the app
- Photos / Media storage — to import existing images from your device's photo library
- Internet access — to connect to Google Drive (if you enable backup) and to retrieve UV forecast data
- Location (approximate) — to provide UV forecasts for your area, if you enable this feature
These permissions are used only within the app and only for the purposes described above. Freckle does not access your camera or photo library in the background.
Data deletion
All data stored by Freckle is deleted when you uninstall the app from your device. Within the app, you can delete individual spots and all associated photos at any time from the spot's detail screen.
Children
Freckle is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed for use by children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app, no information has been shared with us — all data remains on the device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will appear at this URL with a revised date at the top. Freckle will not notify you of policy changes through the app because it does not have a way to contact you — by design.
